Just because it is a veteran on the cyclocross calendar, it does not stop surprising in its 38th edition. The San Andrés trophy will once again bring together the most powerful and brave runners this Saturday in Ametzaga de Zuia on a circuit of about three kilometers that “maintains the essence, because it is already a demanding circuit”, but which introduces variations to offer a greater spectacle. Organized by the Zuyano Cycling Club and the Alavesa Cycling Federation, with the support of EL CORREO, the event will also be the setting for the Álava championship.

Nearly 200 cyclists – registration is still open – will start at 9.30 am, with the master category cyclists 40, 50 and 60. It will be the first of the four tests, since the cadets will leave at 10.30 and the elite under 23 women’s and men’s events will take place at 12:00 and 1:00 p.m., respectively. “We have opted for a more compact and attractive route,” highlighted Javier Ruiz de Larrinaga, Basque cyclocross coach and former cyclist who was a prophet in his homeland five times by winning this race, during the presentation of the event.

Another novelty has to do with the weather, since the weather forecasts do not predict a rainy day or even snow, as in previous editions. However, the runners will once again get muddy on a route that mixes asphalt and field, which will force them to push themselves to the maximum on a ratty circuit in sections and with not very steep slopes.

“The slope to climb to the upper area is very demanding, but it can be done without getting off the bike,” said Ruiz de Larrinaga, together with Arkaitz Larrazkueta, one of the organizers of the test. In addition, this year the layout incorporates a farm located next to the road, which allows the map to be more compact and attractive.
