The island of Lanzarote becomes the epicenter of national badminton this weekend, with the celebration of the Spanish U23 Championship, which will bring together the young promises of this sport at the facilities of the IES Blas Cabrera Felipe, in Arrecife. A tournament organized by the Auria Bádminton Club together with the Spanish Badminton Federation and the Canarian Badminton Federation, and which for the first time in history is held in Lanzarote.
The official presentation of the event will take place this Wednesday, November 20, starting at 09:30 a.m., at the Island Council of Lanzarote. The event will be attended by the Sports Councilor of the Lanzarote Council, Juan Monzón, and will be accompanied by the president of the Canarian Badminton Federation, Florentín Rodríguez, and Oliver Gausmann, president and events director of the Auria Bádminton Club.
Since 2017, a Spanish Badminton Championship has not been held in the Canary Islands and it will be the first time in history that the island of Lanzarote hosts a top national category tournament. The event, which will start on Friday morning, will have the participation of 54 players, representing 32 clubs from the Canary Islands, Madrid, Catalonia, Galicia, Asturias, Andalusia, the Valencian Community, Castilla La Mancha, Extremadura, the Balearic Islands and The Basque Country.
The Spanish U23 Badminton Championship is organized jointly by the Auria Bádminton Club, the Spanish Badminton Federation and the Canary Islands Badminton Federation, with the collaboration of the Lanzarote Council, the Insular Sports Service, the San Bartolomé City Council, the Councilor’s Office. of Sports of San Bartolomé, Government of the Canary Islands and General Directorate of Sports.
