The song crashed near the production staff who narrowly escaped the tragedy, a few hours before the kickoff of the NFL match between the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Texans, broadcast on American television.
Perhaps patience should have prevailed over the risk incurred due to bad weather. While the Dallas Cowboys decided to open the retractable roof of AT&T Stadium on Monday evening, for the first time in more than two years, an incident spoiled this event celebrated by the American franchise on Monday.
A piece of sheet metal broke off shortly after the opening, falling onto the field with other debris, a few hours before the match kicked off. No one was injured, fortunately, but the song came close to coming into contact with the production staff on site. The part apparently came loose due to the strong winds that blew throughout the day. Another piece of the roof, stuck high up, did not fall onto the ground.
“The wind gusts were blowing throughout the day and apparently caused a lot of damage. When we tried to open it, the winds went under the roof at that point,” said Jerry Jones, owner and general manager of the Cowboys, after the game, in comments reported by CBS. There was some damage, but you should know that Dallas experienced gusty winds throughout the afternoon… We were aware of that.”
Nicknamed “Jerry World” in reference to the owner of the stadium and the Cowboys, Jerry Jones, AT&T Stadium, located in Arlington in the western suburbs of Dallas, can accommodate 80,000 spectators. While the incident was further investigated before a decision was made “whether the roof could be safely reopened”, the roof was subsequently closed and remained that way for the match which saw the Cowbys lose (10-34) against the Houston Texans.
