to unite the team, Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs created… a book club

A book club has been formed at the San Antonio Spurs around Victor Wembanyama, Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes, reports L’Équipe. The goal: read the same book and meet every month to discuss it.

It’s obviously a little heavier than a smartphone. But it’s just as useful for passing time on countless hours of plane rides across the United States. As reported by The Teama small core of San Antonio Spurs players was created around one of the passions of Victor Wembanyama: books.

The idea was started by Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes. Arriving this summer after a rich NBA career to bring experience to a very young squad, the two men decided to set up a reading club to unite the team. And for that, nothing better than choosing one of the favorite activities of the new star of the franchise, who is also passionate about drawing.

“Vic is still reading”

“Vic is always reading. We thought we could try to bring the guys together by reading the same book and then talking about it. He loved the idea,” says Harrison Barnes in the columns of The Team. “Wembanyama is one of the smartest guys I’ve ever had the chance to meet. I like how brilliant and curious he is for his age,” says Chris Paul, keen to create a bond with the No. 1 of the 2023 draft despite their 19-year difference.

The principle of this book club is to choose a book and meet once a month to discuss it. Currently, it has six members: Victor Wembanyama, Chris Paul, Harrison Barnes, Tre Jones, Harrison Ingram and David Duke Jr.

The honor of choosing the first book went to Victor Wembanyama. He opted for The Name of the Windwritten by Patrick Rothfuss and from the trilogy Chronicle of the kingslayer. Whoever is taking power in San Antonio doesn’t have too much to worry about.
