There is content that I really want to try while running Scava. This is interview-style content that talks about sports careers and trading cards with sports stars. In the United States and Japan, countries where sports cards are developed, many sports stars enjoy collecting cards as a hobby, so this content often appears.
It is not easy to conduct this type of interview in Korea. It appears that market growth is not yet sufficient to achieve Scava’s hopes. So today, I will introduce a translated example of an interview from the United States. I think this will give subscribers a taste of the existence of content like this.
Recently, Sports Collectors Digest (SCD), an American media outlet specializing in sports memorabilia, published an interview article with NFL legend quarterback Warren Moon. Currently, in the NFL, ‘dual-threat’ black quarterbacks who are excellent at both passing and running are making a big comeback. These include Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens, Kyler Murray of the Arizona Cardinals, and Jaylen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles. Moon is considered the starting all-black quarterback in the NFL.
A graduate of the University of Washington (Huskies), Moon entered the 1978 NFL Draft. At the time, the quarterback position was exclusively for white men. It was a difficult time for Moon to be drafted. After being shunned by all 28 teams in the league, Moon turned to the Canadian Football League (CFL).
Wearing an Edmonton Eskimos uniform, Moon won an unprecedented five consecutive Gray Cups (the CFL’s Super Bowl) from 1978-82. Moon, who was recognized for his performance in the CFL, suddenly joined the NFL Houston Oilers in 1984. Now, decades later, Moon is the only player to be inducted into both the CFL and NFL Halls of Fame. Although he does not have the fame and recognition of Major League Baseball’s Jackie Robinson, he is clearly a pioneer who broke down the barrier of racial discrimination in the NFL.
Born in 1956, Moon is currently 67 years old. SCD met with Moon in Gallup, New Mexico, as a guest speaker at the 33rd annual Rotary Club Scholarship Fundraiser held at the Red Rock State Park Event Center earlier this year.
Before introducing the interview content, I briefly summarized Moon’s career.
