NEW YORK.– With the attendance of hundreds of basketball fans, a tournament was held this weekend on the field of Lehman College University, in the Bronx, dedicated to transportation businessman and athlete Roberto Rojas.
In the tournament the teams faced each other “Hostos Park” and “La Matica” from the province of La Vega, in the Dominican Republic. The “Parque Hostos” team took the victory with 78 points compared to “La Matica”’s 70.
The event was attended by various authorities, businessmen, professionals, communicators, students, taxi drivers, merchants, ordinary citizens and athletes, including the legend of Dominican sports, the basketball player José -Grillo- Vargas, who offers teachings to hundreds of young people in this discipline in the Big Apple.

Congressman Adriano Espaillat, present at the activity, said: “These types of events must be supported because they send a positive message to our youth, promoting the motto ‘healthy body, healthy mind’. Additionally, we thank both teams for visiting us.”
For his part, Rojas highlighted: “Practicing physical activity not only helps maintain a healthy physical state, it also contributes to improving mental health, promoting concentration, increasing self-esteem and even helping to reduce anxiety.” He also called on businessmen to support this type of tournaments for the benefit of youth, which will be held recurrently in the Big Apple.
For the first time in history, the DR’s number 1 Professional Basketball League, TBS La Vega, comes to New York.
The activity was organized by the “Amor por el Básket” Association, directed by Jalexis Fernández.
