CALI, Colombia. The Dominican Republic ranked ninth, after winning a total of 10 medals at the III Fisu América 2024 Pan American University Games held from the 4th to the 15th of this month in this city with the participation of 15 delegations from the same number of countries.
The Quisqueyan representation, made up of 11 athletes in the disciplines of judo and athletics, added one gold, five silver and four bronze medals.
In athletics, adding one gold, four silver medals and one bronze, the men’s 4×400 meter quartet, made up of Franquelo Pérez, Feliz Ángelo, Anderson Miguel José and Josenyer Cabrera, from the O&M University, won the gold over the representation of Brazil, which took the silver.
Marysabel Senyu, in the high jump, won the silver medal with 1.76 meters. The gold went to Helen Tenorio Arboleda, from Colombia, and the bronze went to María Ferreira de Babosa, from Brazil.
In the 100 meter dash, Franquelo Pérez, from O&M, won silver, with a time of 10.33 seconds, he was surpassed by the Mexican Carlos Flores Angulo, who covered the distance in 10.31 seconds.
In the 200 meter dash, Franquelo Pérez also won bronze, while Tamara Esther Abad, from Unapec, won silver in the 400 meter hurdles.
In the mixed 400 meters, the Quisqueyan representation, made up of Martha Méndez, from Unev University; Thamara Esther Abad, from Unapec, Anderson José and Angelo Feliz, from O&M, won the silver medal with a time of 3:35:18. Costa Rica won gold.
