Ten years without José Luis Abós
On the night of October 20, 2014, the saddest news arrived, the one that no one would have wanted to hear. José Luis Abós had died. After a tough fight against a cruel illness, the Aragonese coach died at the age of 53. His optimism and desire for recovery had not been enough to combat an illness that only a few months earlier had kept him from the CAI Zaragoza bench.
Ten years have passed and his memory remains present among fans, professional colleagues, athletes and among all those who make up the great family of Aragonese and national basketball, who showed great unity when it came to showing their support and affection for José Luis Abós.
Since then there have been many events that serve to remember the figure of the Zaragoza coach. There is the City of Zaragoza Trophy that is held every year before the start of the season and that bears his name.
The Aragonese Basketball Federation established the José Luis Abós Award for the best coach of the season, which is presented annually at the Aragonese Basketball Gala.
And the Clínic José Luis Abós, which this year celebrates its ninth edition, which has become one of the great events for coaches nationwide and which will be held next Friday, December 6.
