The Spanish tennis player, Rafa Nadal, leaves tennis at the age of 38. The Mallorcan entered the elite 23 years ago (2001) and was collecting successes until this Tuesday, the date of the final point.
What has happened?
- Nadal planned to say goodbye to tennis with the challenge of winning his sixth Davis Cup. But he hasn’t succeeded. Yesterday he lost to Van de Zandschulp in the opening of the tournament against the Netherlands.
- And, despite the point achieved by Carlos Alcaraz, the Murcian and Marcel Granollers have fallen in the doubles, thus confirming the definitive farewell of the legendary tennis player.
Their wins (1,080) and losses (227):
- In total, there are 92 trophies on the shelf, of which 22 correspond to major tournaments and 63 to clay courts.
- He is the second man with the most Grand Slams (22), two less than the Serbian Novak Djokovic and two more than the Swiss Roger Federer, who have been his great rivals for years.
- He is the undisputed champion of Roland Garros, with a total of 14 titles.
One sentence: “Among all of you, you have always pushed me to continue fighting. But you have to accept the situation. I feel super privileged. I can only give thanks to life. I made of me hobby my profession.”
