New cheer in the NFL

More and more US athletes are cheering with the so-called Trump dance. Now the American football league NFL has commented on a possible ban – and has taken a clear position.

They alternately move their arms forward again and again and wiggle their hips slightly – and somewhat bumpily. A reference to Trump, who repeatedly did the dance at campaign events and made the audience cheer.
NFL has “no problem” with Trump cheering
But isn’t the dance actually a political statement and therefore banned in some US sports leagues? At least the National Football League (NFL) has now taken a position on this.
The Trump celebration was “not a problem,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told “Front Office Sports.” Regarding the broadcasting TV networks, McCarthy further stated: “It’s up to the networks to report it as they see fit.”
According to the rules, cheers are only prohibited if they are excessive or contain violent or sexually suggestive acts. However, none of this is the case with the Trump dance; the cheering is not seen as a political statement.
The situation is different when NFL players make such a statement with their clothing. This most recently happened to Nick Bosa of the San Francisco 49ers: The defensive end was fined $11,255 by the NFL after showing up at a game wearing a “Make America Great Again” cap.

Trump cheering is no longer just seen in football, the dance is also finding its way into football. Just last Tuesday, US international Christian Pulisic celebrated one of his two goals against Jamaica with a dance.
