Despite a mixed start, both in terms of statistics and in the game, the French striker maintains the confidence of the Merengue.
It’s time to take stock. Kylian Mbappé made his debut with Real Madrid CF on August 14 – a hundred days ago – against Atalanta BC, during the UEFA Super Cup (2-0). The French striker, who celebrated his first with a goal, has since played sixteen matches in all competitions with the Merengue. And the least we can say is that his performances have not (yet?) convinced. The ex-Paris SG player is regularly criticized – by Madrid supporters as well as the media and football fans in general – for his lack of efficiency, his bad choices and his nonchalance on the pitch.
The fact remains that the leaders of the White House, who did everything to recruit him in the offseason, remain optimistic about him. “We are calm, we know it’s a cannon”said the club Mark . For those who come into contact with him on a daily basis, there is no doubt: he has “spectacular potential” and it is “a great player”.

Insufficient performance
Problem: for the moment, the man who arrived at Real Madrid CF with the label of best striker in the world – if not the best player in the world – is only a shadow of himself. In sixteen matches with the Merengue, he scored eight goals; which is not bad in itself but three of them were scored on penalties. Furthermore, the Frenchman has never weighed in on the big posters. He was rather transparent in the Champions League against BV Borussia 09 Dortmund (5-2) despite an assist and against AC Milan (1-3). We also saw him in difficulty in his placement, his calls and the finish in humiliation against FC Barcelona (0-4) in the championship. Far too insufficient for a player of this ilk.

And if that were not enough, “KM9” does not show an excellent attitude on the pitch, especially in the defensive phases during which he is – by far – the least active Madrid player, to say the least, forcing some to his teammates like Jude Bellingham to do more. All this means that his debut with the club of his heart does not live up to expectations. “We are satisfied with him, because he scored goals. […] I think he is gradually getting closer to his best level. But we are in no hurry, neither the staff nor him. Obviously, he will continue to improve, because he has all the qualities to do so.explained Carlo Ancelotti at the end of October. Since then, there has been no better. But with the international break which (undoubtedly) allowed him to perk up and get back into shape, perhaps he will find his best level this weekend, against CD Leganés (Sunday, 6:30 p.m.).
