With the “Fans in the East” campaign, MDR continues to shine a light on top sport that is otherwise hardly in the spotlight. On Saturday we’re heading to Ilmenau for an exciting East badminton duel.
It will be a real treat for badminton fans. A real classic will take place in Ilmenau, Thuringia, on Saturday (November 23, 2024). SV GutsMuths Jena meets their rivals from HSG DHfK Leipzig – in an exciting basement duel that will be decided in several matches.

Last against second to last
“The game is immensely important. I think for both teams. It’s last against second to last, it’s an East derby, so that’s where it’s going to get really tough,” says Lennart Noti from SV GutsMuths Jena, setting out the route for Saturday.

The game is played in the Ilm sports hall in Ilmenau. The reason: The local club SV 1880 Unterpörlitz eV is celebrating its 50th anniversary and offers a worthy setting for the game. By winning the “Fans in the East” live streams (Saturday from 5 p.m. live) things will be spiced up a bit, says Marie Lücke from SV GutsMuths Jena: “We’re definitely looking forward to it, so the reach will of course be bigger.”
Home game for Florian Otto
It will be something very special for Jena player Florian Otto. He comes from Ilmenau, started playing badminton there and is now looking forward to his personal home game: “It’s more like anticipation to play in front of the old faces again in the well-known hall in my hometown. That’s a very cool feeling .”
