Montreal Alouettes | Two more years for kicker Jose Maltos

(Montreal) The Montreal Alouettes signed a two-year contract with kicker Jose Maltos on Thursday.

The 33-year-old Mexican took part in 14 games this year after taking over for the injured David Côté at the start of the season. He made 33 of his 36 field goals for an efficiency of 91.7%, a rate that places him third in the Canadian Football League (CFL).

In 45 kickoffs, he recorded 2,880 yards.

“Jose went from the practice squad to a regular player in the middle of the season,” said Alouettes general manager Danny Maciocia, according to a press release. He delivered the goods every time he had to answer the call, and did so with unwavering consistency. The pressure seems to motivate him to surpass himself. He deserves what happens to him. »

The Alouettes went 12-5-1 in the regular season before losing in the Eastern final to the Toronto Argonauts, eventual Gray Cup champions.
