Time for matchday 12!
I thought it would be a good time to take a look at the rookie QB’s now that the season is 2/3 over. I deliberately leave out Haener/Rattler because the sample size is too small. The ranks apply to ALL qualified QB’s, not just rookies. Source is Pro-Football-Reference.
Jayden Daniels

Caleb Williams
Comp. %: 61,8 Rank: 31
Yards per Game: 201,6 Rank: 25
TD % per Pass Attempt: 2,8 Rank: 32
INT % per Pass Attempt: 1,5 Rank: 10

Bo Nix

INT % per Pass Attempt: 1,7 Rank: 11
Yards gained per Pass Attempt: 6,4 Rank: 30
Passer Rating: 89,3 Rank: 21
Drake Maye
Comp. %: 66,7 Rank: 15
Yards per Game: 176,6 Rank: 28
TD % per Pass Attempt 4,8: Rank: 11

For comparison, I thought about using a rookie QB season as the gold standard. My choice fell on Dak’s Rookie Season. Only 16 games, but since we haven’t had a full season here yet, the season is definitely suitable for me:
Dak Prescott (2016)
Comp. %: 67,8 Rank: 4
Yards per Game: 229,2 Rank: 24
TD % per Pass Attempt 5,0: Rank: 9
INT % per Pass Attempt: 0,9 Rank: 2
Yards gained per Pass Attempt: 8,0 Rank: 4
Passer Rating: 104,9 Rank: 3
Dak’s rookie season sets the bar very high. Was elected to the Pro Bowl, became OROTY and even got an MVP vote.
And here again all ranking positions in an overview:
QB | Comp. % Rank | Yards per Game Rank | TD % per Pass Attempt Rank | INT % per Pass Attempt Rank | Yards gained per Pass Attempt Rank | Passer Rating Rank |
Jayden Daniels | 9 | 21 | 26 | 6 | 8 | 11 |
Caleb Williams | 31 | 25 | 32 | 10 | 31 | 29 |
Bo Nix | 22 | 22 | 23 | 11 | 30 | 21 |
Drake Maye | 15 | 28 | 11 | 27 | 27 | 26 |
Dak Prescott (2016) | 4 | 24 | 9 | 2 | 4 | 3 |
I think it can be said that with the exception of Drake Maye, all QB’s are very careful with the ball and hardly throw any interceptions. If you then compare the numbers with Dak’s 2016 numbers, you can also see that only Jayden Daniels is actually considered as OROTY. We all thought that anyway, but the numbers prove it again. When it comes to Maye, I wonder whether it’s generally because of Maye that he acts more aggressively or whether it’s directly due to his playcalling.
