Andorra la Vella hosted the 5th international tournament for veterans (master): you are a veteran in judo from the age of 30.
95 judokas were present for this high-level competition coming from different geographical backgrounds: Andorra, France (including a large part of Occitania), Spain, Portugal, Luxembourg, Great Britain (Gibraltar) and Romania. The bad weather in Spain unfortunately had a big impact on the non-participation of judokas (around 25 registered) from the regions concerned.
4 veteran judokas from the Saint-Cyprien Judo club (including 1 from the associated Argelès club) met on the Andorran tatamis and all came back with a medal!
Julien Tonnaire (32 years old): silver medal. Jean-Luc Valembois (61 years old): bronze medal. Richard Montoya (73 years old): bronze medal. Yves Rousselin (79 years old): silver medal.
A magnificent enriching experience with very good fights, which will prepare these judokas for the next deadlines in terms of competitions in France and also abroad (in particular in Spain). Two judokas from the Catalan Judo club were also present who each obtained a bronze medal: Alan Soto and Thierry Page.
This tournament organized by the Andorran Judo Federation was honored by the assiduous and comforting presence of the president of the Occitanie judo league, Régine Ferret.
Finally, this event took place in the Pavelló del Prat Gran space which will host the judo competitions of the Games of Small States of Europe from May 26 to 31, 2025, placed under the direction of the Olympic Committee of Andorra. These games, which take place every two years, bring together the best athletes in different disciplines, including judo. In 2025, the organizing country is Andorra and in 2027 it will be the turn of the Principality of Monaco.
