On Thursday, November 21st, SWB celebrated the start of the new construction of 126 apartments in the Eichbaumsiedlung with a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony.
After SWB received the funding approval notice at the end of September, preparations for the extensive first construction phase on Filchnerstrasse began in October. The site is being made ready for construction so that the first construction pits can be dug for the planned houses. “We are pleased that with the start of construction on this large project we are now setting another milestone in the development of the Eichbaumsiedlung neighborhood,” says Oliver Ahrweiler, Technical Managing Director of SWB.
It starts in the area directly behind the high-rise building. A five-story house is being built there, into which the DRK will move with day care and assisted living. Following this, further adjacent buildings will be built on the construction site in the rear area, all of solid construction. Here you will quickly see the progress of the construction work once the foundation has been laid and the floors are being raised.
Construction time of around three years
At the same time, the construction pits for the five apartment buildings, which will be built from wood, are being dug along Filchnerstrasse. Once the cellars and stair towers have been built here, no construction progress will be visible on these houses for a while. “While the solid construction houses grow piece by piece, the preparations for the wooden construction will continue in the background. The planning is much more complex; the wooden parts are then made in workshops. On the other hand, the construction on site is much quicker,” explains SWB architect Carsten Butterweck. Overall, the first construction phase, which includes the construction of 126 apartments and four commercial units, is estimated to take around three years to complete.
