Successful 15th edition of the Suriname International Badminton Tournament 2024 – Ampie’s Broadcasting Corporation

The Suriname International Badminton Tournament, from 13 to 17
took place in November at the Ring Sport Center and was a great success. The 15th
edition brought together 72 players from 12 countries, who competed for the titles in five
categories. Suriname was represented by a team of 32 players and won no fewer than seven medals.

Although the official opening ceremony on Thursday could not take place due to a power outage, the players were not discouraged.
In the quarterfinals Suriname’s seven-time national champion, Sören
Opti, his superior recognizes Samuel Cassar from Malta, who won 21-16 and
21-18. The tournament featured impressive matches, including one
surprising victory in the semi-finals of Adriano Viale from Peru. He
defeated the highest-ranked player, Kevin Cordón of Guatemala (No. 54 of the
world), with 21-9 and 21-19. The finals were breathtaking. Misha Zilberman from Israel defeated the crowd favorite Adriano Viale and was crowned champion in the Men’s Singles.

In the Women’s Singles, Inés Lucía Castillo from Peru, who also won the Women’s
She co-wrote Doubles with Namie Miyahira. The Men’s Doubles was an absolute highlight for Suriname. Sören Opti and Mitchel Wongsodikromo triumphed over compatriots Rivano Bisphan and Danny Chen. In the Mixed Doubles final, Rivano Bisphan and Sion Zeegelaar kept the audience on the edge of their seats, but ultimately had to leave the gold to Christopher Salvador and Diana Soto from Guatemala.

board and the many volunteers.” The Suriname International Badminton Tournament remains an important platform for the development of badminton in the region and a source of inspiration for the Surinamese sports community. The tournament is also already registered with the Badminton World Federation for 2025, namely XVI Suriname International 2025.
