The Red Sox are trying to lure outfielder Juan Soto to Boston and have decided to trust their former player David Ortiz to attract the most popular free agent of the off-season.
“I see it with the Red Sox. I tell you the truth. I see him there, unless something different happens, because right now everyone wants him, but I also do my research because I would like to have this dominant player on my team,” Ortiz said in an interview with the Puerto Rican newspaper The Spokesman.

“Soto is a phenomenon that everyone wants because he is complete. Whoever signs him for the next 12 years will be sure to win a few championships.”
Ortiz played 14 of his 20 seasons in major league baseball with the Red Sox, winning the World Series three times (2004, 2007 and 2013). The 49-year-old is convinced that the Red Sox represent the best option for the 26-year-old superstar.
“Soto is a unique player, a young guy who is already at another level, and the organization that welcomes him will benefit from an immediate impact,” Ortiz also said. In Boston, he will have the best manager in the major leagues, which is Alex Cora, in my opinion. Cora has a unique chemistry with his players, and I wish I could go back 15 years to play for him. A player who can’t play for himself won’t be able to play for anyone, because he’s a brilliant guy.”
Soto has just played a season in the uniform of the New York Yankees, after having worn the colors of the Washington Nationals and the San Diego Padres. The power hitter had his best career campaign with 128 hits, including 41 home runs.
Last October, after the Yankees lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series, the ESPN network asked experts to predict how much money Soto will get. The majority of them believe that the native of the Dominican Republic will sign an agreement which could allow him to receive between $600 and $699 million.
