‘Snowflake Shooter’ Yu Yu-sang (23, LG) saved the Korean men’s basketball team from an ‘upset’ crisis.
The Korean men’s basketball team, ranked 53rd in the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), played the third match of Group A of the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers against Indonesia (77th) at the Sono Arena in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do on the 21st.
The Korean men’s basketball team had previously won all nine games against Indonesia, but on this day, they started the final fourth quarter with a five-point deficit at 58-63.
With 1 minute and 28 seconds left in the fourth quarter when the game was down 60-65, Yoo Yoo-sang made two free throws and made them both to make it 62-65.
Then, with 2 minutes and 43 seconds left in the lead at 67-68, he succeeded in intercepting the game, laying the foundation for a 70-68 comeback.
Korea won 86-78 without losing the lead once.
Yoo Yu-sang, born on April 17, 2001, scored 13 points, including 3 3-point shots, on this day.
Yu Yu-sang is the first Korean male basketball player born in the 21st century to score double-digit scores in a FIBA competition.
Yugi-sang, last season’s winner of the Pro Basketball Rookie of the Year Award, made his debut as an adult national team member through a friendly visit to Tokyo held on July 5-7 this year.
Yu Yu-sang earned the nickname “Snowflake Shooter” by scoring 17 points, including 5 3-pointers, in the second game.
This is a nickname he got because his English name ‘Yu Ki Sang’ reminds him of ‘Yuki’, which means snow in Japanese.
