Dear readers:
We recently met with our owners and wanted to update you on how things are going at Baseball Prospectus and our plans for the future.
Getting to the point: Like many sites with our business model, our subscriptions have dropped a bit over the last 1-2 seasons. It’s nothing serious at the moment, but it’s also something we want to aggressively remedy. One of the solutions available to us is to raise the price of subscriptions: readers have told us many times that they would pay more for the value we offer.
We have only raised dues once in our history, in 2017, from $40 to $45.95 for a premium subscription. However, we don’t want to do it. Unless there is legitimately no other option, our preference is to keep our subscription as accessible and affordable as possible. It is a challenge to keep our prices as static as they have been until now (it seems there is something called inflation…), but a challenge worth pursuing.
To make this possible, we need a larger subscriber base than the current one. Despite our presence in the sector, you will be surprised to know that we have just over 6,000 subscribers, including our monthly contributors. We have double that number. If we could add a thousand… or please two thousand… it would have a significant impact on our ability to maintain the current price and keep BP affordable for as many people as possible.
We are very grateful to the many, many people who have offered a testimonial on social media in recent days and weeks, promoting BP and telling people why it is a great value. And we will do everything possible to make the subscription to Baseball Prospectus remains an easy choice. We just need your help to spread the word: tell your family, your friends, your followers, or even just someone on the street in a baseball cap how great this product is. We are sure that our work speaks for itself, but first we need people to hear it.
Regardless of this situation, we have big things planned for 2025. That includes updates to our leaderboards and player cards, new series from our incredibly talented authors, new release metrics, and some fun, quality updates from PECOTA, among other things . Any additional subscribers help us keep prices where they are and hit more targets, faster, because our owners are so, so good at reinvesting everything back into the company.
We have a lot of good things, and we just want to bring them to as many people as possible, at an affordable price. We are very grateful to those who are already helping us achieve this, and we thank in advance to everyone who is willing to spread the word.
We remind you that you can give a subscription easily or refer someone to our subscriptions page. And if,BP360 is here!
