São Paulo, Nov 21 (EFE).- The Brazilian basketball team defeated the Uruguayan team 71-65 this Thursday in the Brazilian city of Belém and took a firm step towards qualifying for the 2025 Americup that Nicaragua will host.
The Uruguayan team, led by Gerardo Jauri, displayed suffocating pressure from the beginning until winning the first quarter 15-19.
In the second, the light blues increased their advantage, but Alexandar Petrovic’s Brazilians corrected mistakes and stepped on the accelerator until they finished 33-27 with a triple by Lucas Atauri in the last seconds.
In the third half, the temperature of the game rose and the teams were very even (52-50), although in the last quarter Petrovic’s team came away thanks to Mãozinha’s marksmanship.
Brazil will face Panama this Sunday, while Uruguay will play against Paraguay, disputes that will define the first classified.
The best three in the group will qualify for the Americup to be held in August 2025 in Nicaragua.
Brazil, which has won its two other matches so far in the tournament, leads the group, followed by Uruguay, and with Panama and Paraguay at the bottom of the standings. EFE
