With the presence of the Executive Committee of Panam Sports, sports authorities of the Dominican Republic, representatives of the IOC and more than 90 athletes and former athletes from across the continent, the III Continental Athletes Forum is taking place in Punta Cana.
The first day had a first protocol part where the main authorities present welcomed all the athletes. Then it was the turn of the presentation of Olympic Solidarity with Olivier Niamkey, Associate Director of Olympic Solidarity and Silvia Lucciarini, Project Manager.
After that it was the turn of Gonzalo Zarza, Chief Data of Sportian, who presented an interesting update on Artificial Intelligence, and how to apply it to sport and its athletes.
The most emotional moment of this first day was without a doubt, at the end of the protocol stage, when the entire Panam Sports Executive Committee was called to present the “Sports Career Achievement Award” which this year went to the Olympic medalist and Pan American diving, Alejandra Orozco from Mexico, who after participating in Paris 2024, made the decision to retire from high competition.
“I am very honored, happy, and proud of this recognition. A lot of nostalgia for everything I experienced in my career, the triumphs, the defeats, everything I went through to reach this end. This award means a lot to me, and it motivates me a lot to continue transmitting and motivating my experiences to new generations. I started as a volunteer with a dream and to be finishing my career in this way makes me very happy. Thank you Panam Sports for this recognition,” said Alejandra Orozco.
“Alejandra represents a lot for the sport of the Americas. It is an example of work, perseverance, improvement and love for sport. When he announced his retirement from high competition, we immediately thought of recognizing him and saying thank you for so much. And what better way to do it than with your peers here at the Panam Sports Athletes Forum,” said President Neven Ilic.
The Panam Sports Athletes Forum continues until Saturday, November 23 with the participation of more than 20 exhibitors and more than 90 athletes from across the continent.
