MORE THAN 50 BASKETBALL CLUBS PARTICIPATED IN THE 2024-2 SUPER ROOKIE CHAMPIONSHIP

San José de Cúcuta, Norte de Santander, November 21, 2024. (@AlcaldiaCucuta). With the commitment to promote sports and the comprehensive development of the youth of Cucuta, the municipal administration, through the Municipal Institute for Recreation and Sports (IMRD)supported the successful Super Rookie Championship 2024-2which brought together more than 700 athletes from 50 basketball clubs. This event doubled participation compared to its first edition, consolidating itself as a key space for the growth of local basketball.

During three months of competitions in the La Canasta court in Cúcutathe community turned to support their favorite teams, evidencing the importance of sport as a driver of integration and recreation.

The championship was organized by the Club News Stars and the Motilones Club of Norte Academiawith the support of IMRD and the Nortesantandereana Basketball League. The young athletes represented 16 teams in the U13 women’s category and 24 teams in the men’s version; while, in the U15 men’s category, 13 clubs participated.

Champions:

  • U15 men’s category – Club Halcones
  • U13 men’s category – Club Baqueros
  • U13 female category – Club Baqueros

“They were very competitive and pleasant weeks, we experienced great sporting integration and we hope to continue doing these events together with the IMRD“said the championship organizer, Edward Agelviz.

For his part, the president of the Norte de Santander Basketball League, John Moreno Guerreroemphasized the importance of sports competitions from an early age, to increase the massification of the discipline. “These tournaments encourage young people to be on the city’s professional team, in this way the players from the IMRD affiliated clubs already the leaguethey are planned and prepared for this purpose,” he added.

The municipal administration reiterates its commitment to sport as a tool to promote healthy habits and lifestyles in youth. He IMRD will continue to work hand in hand with local clubs and leagues to strengthen these initiatives and promote the development of basketball in the city.
