Having finished all the championships and with an eye already turned to the next competitive season, the Crazy Sambonifacese Baseball & Softball has decided to close the year by proposing a series of events dedicated to dialogue with some protagonists of the world of sport in our area.
“Sports meetings” is the title of this mini-exhibition, ready to start on the weekend that is arriving in San Bonifacio (VR) and which is part of the calendar of events of “Waiting for the 2025 Journalism Festival” organized by Heraldo.
Il first event is scheduled Saturday 23 November and we will talk about baseball and the United States. The protagonists of the meeting will in fact be Samuel AldegheriLos Angeles Angels player and first baseball pitcher born and raised in Italy to play in the Major Leagues, and Paolo Castagninihistorical face of Verona and Veneto baseball and today volunteer coach at the Kansas City Royals Urban Academy.
Samuel Aldegheri is 23 years old, he is from Verona and he started playing baseball first in San Martino Buon Albergo, then moving on to Verona and Parma. From there he made the leap to the USA where, after a few years of experience in the minor leagues, this summer he joined the Los Angeles Angels and became the second Italian ever to debut in MLB after Alex Liddi. Paolo Castagnini, on the other hand, discovered baseball in the late 1960s, playing up to the top league. In the following years, as a coach and manager, he helped found numerous Veronese clubs and coached in Verona, San Martino Buon Albergo, Pastrengo, Vicenza, Bolzano, Genoa and Trento. For years he has collaborated with US baseball, coaching in Kansas and supporting young Italians who intend to study and play in the United States.
During the meeting we will discuss baseball, of course, but through experiences and anecdotes we will also talk about the USA in general, discussing the importance given to sport in the United States in the educational phase, also making a comparison between the American system and the Italian/European.
The appointment, therefore, is for Saturday 23 Novembereveryone ore 17.30at the Barbarani civic hall in via Marconi 5 a Saint Boniface. Entrance to the meeting is free and free for all.
The event enjoys the patronage of Municipality of San Bonifacio and is organized in collaboration with the CONI – Veneto Regional Committee.
