Lanzarote hosts the Spanish U23 Badminton Championship for the first time

The Assembly Hall of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has hosted the presentation of the Spanish U23 Badminton Championship. This event will be held for the first time on the Island this weekend, at the IES Cabrera Felipe facilities, in Arrecife, where 54 island and international participants will compete.

The presentation ceremony was attended by the Sports Minister of the insular Corporation, Juan Monzón; the president of the Canarian Badminton Federation, Florentín Rodríguez, and the president and event director of Auria Bádminton Club, Oliver Gausmann, in addition to also being present the vice president of the Lanzarote Cabildo, Jacobo Medina.

The Minister of Sports, Juan Monzón, valued “a sporting modality that in Lanzarote has more than 500 federative licenses.” “This meeting will help position our island on the international sports calendar,” he said and assured that he was convinced that “it will become a successful experience and an attraction for Lanzarote to become a favorite location for other events,” he confirmed.

Likewise, remember that “the Insular Sports Service has acquired material so that the success of badminton competitions in Lanzarote is guaranteed.”

“This material will be loaned to the Cabildo of Tenerife in the coming months to host a new Spanish Badminton Championship in the Canary Islands, thus promoting the practice of this discipline,” stressed Juan Monzón.

The competition will begin this Friday, November 22, starting at 3:30 p.m., with the first two qualifying rounds. On Saturday, November 23, at 10:00 a.m., the quarterfinal and semifinal matches will be played and, on Sunday, November 24, the finals of the men’s singles, women’s singles, and doubles categories will take place. male and female, and mixed doubles.
