For its 60th anniversary, the Quimperlé Tennis Club dreamed of celebrating its anniversary by playing the fourth national final in its history. The Pro A team succeeded in this challenge even before the last day of its championship, Wednesday November 20. The Quimperlois dominated their group and won the first ticket for the final which will pit them against the winner of Pool A (Boulogne-Billancourt with Rinderknech, or Bordeaux with Gasquet) on Saturday November 30 in Colomiers.
A first for Julien Lepère
Without stars, but with players forming a balanced and united collective, the TCQ team had its best start to the season, with three victories against Bressuire (6-0), Marignane (5-1) and Nantes (4- 2), and a draw at Blanc-Mesnil (3-3). With eleven points and three points ahead of second, Quimperlé is sure to finish first in the group, whatever the result of Saturday’s meeting at Loon-Plage. Promoted to the leadership of the team last year, Julien Lepère follows in the footsteps of his glorious elder Philippe Huon. “A first final is going to be a great moment but I don’t forget that Philippe has experienced three and that he once brought the cup back to Quimperlé. We obviously dream of bringing it back again,” smiles the captain of a team that has won over its audience. The Kerbertrand complex was full on Wednesday afternoon to witness the 4-2 victory against Nantes.
A trip to Colomiers
For the TCQ, the dream of the final has come true and the club will organize a trip to Colomiers. “We’re going to prepare that. From experience, we know that the finals are difficult. We don’t yet know who we’re going to face, but whether it’s Bordeaux or Boulogne-Billancourt, we’ll be facing French tennis stars,” announces Basile Spanos, who trusts his players to repeat the 2012 feat.
