BASKETBALL: The MABB in the heart of the educational cities of Amiens

On Wednesday, November 20, the Émile-Moiroud gymnasium, in Étouvie, vibrated to the rhythm of sporting exploits and strong emotions thanks to the MABB which is proposing a project within the framework of the educational cities of Amiens.

The schoolgirls from the César-Franck (Amiens Nord) and Rosa-Parks (Étouvie) establishments faced each other in an intense match, part of the UNSS championship. But this meeting went far beyond the framework of a simple sporting competition: it carried a strong message in favor of gender equality, the development of women’s basketball and educational success in priority neighborhoods.

A transmission of values supported by educational establishments and the city of Amiens

Behind this ambitious initiative are three partners united by a common vision: the educational establishments and their respective managements, the Métropole Amiénoise Basket-Ball (MABB) and the Educational City of Amiens. Together, they work to offer young girls unique sporting opportunities, while placing academic results at the heart of overall success. “These young girls don’t just play to win. They show that it is possible to combine sporting performance and educational success, values which will follow them throughout their life journey”underlines Ugo Coulpied, MABB educator and referent for players at Rosa-Parks college.

During this match, marked by an exemplary competitive spirit, the Etouvie schoolgirls won with a short lead of three points. But beyond the score, it is the educational and sporting follow-up of these young girls which attracts attention. This synergy between sport and education reflects the positive impact of a collaboration designed for their development.

Material support, a form of encouragement in the promotion of women’s sport

In this dynamic, Rosa-Parks college received an endowment of 15 balls, a symbolic gesture highlighting the importance of material support in the promotion of women’s sport. Meanwhile, at the Jean-Renaux gymnasium in Amiens Nord, a day dedicated to 3×3 basketball brought together 80 students. This fast and spectacular format allowed the Delambre-Montaigne high school women’s team to shine. After a decisive victory against Robert-de-Luzarche high school, they won their place for the academic finals. “3×3 gives each participant the opportunity to express themselves, whatever their level. These moments promote the overall development of young people”explains Franck TACK, UNSS departmental director of the Somme.

When sport becomes a driver of social transformation

These initiatives illustrate how sport can become a lever for change in priority neighborhoods. Thanks to the partnership between the Educational City, the MABB and educational establishments, a double success – sporting and educational – is taking shape in the North and West districts of Amiens. “We not only train players, but also young girls capable of becoming models in their establishments, by combining sporting discipline and academic excellence”insists Romy DUFOSSE, social mediator.

Women’s basketball in Amiens goes beyond simple sporting practice. It becomes a real lever for equal opportunities, educational success and the emancipation of young girls. “What we see today are the foundations of a promising future, where every young girl, through sport and education, can dream big and build her own success”concludes with conviction Willy DUFOSSE president of the MABB.

Women’s basketball in Amiens embodies this perfect alliance between performance, education and hope, proving that every young person has the potential to excel, on the field and in the classroom.
