A 36-year-old man from Viterbo, involved in the big brawl at the Shrine which took place on 26 April and who agreed to an eight-month prison sentence, ended up under house arrest. The man had been arrested in flagrante delicto together with two other individuals, the 33-year-old Alessio Denocenti and the 47-year-old, Hosseini Mohammad, after a timely intervention by the patrols of the Operational and Mobile Radio Unit and the police. The fight, which started for trivial reasons, involved two families and quickly turned into an episode of uncontrolled violence. The police, alerted by a private citizen, had stopped the protagonists of the incident, recovering and seizing tools used during the fight, including a claw hammer and a baseball bat.
The episode had taken on a particularly serious tone when one of the participants had deliberately tried to run over one of his opponents, a young man involved in the brawl, with his vehicle. The investigations conducted by the operational and mobile unit had determined that the arrested man should be subjected to home detention. The violence of that evening had attracted the attention of the police, who had guaranteed rapid intervention, considering the daily attendance of the square by many citizens of Viterbo, in particular in the area of the Shrine, which is a focal point of the city center.
