The American Football League (NFL) issued a warning on Thursday after a series of burglaries targeting Kansas City stars in particular Patrick Mahomes et Travis Kelce.
The alert from Wednesday was revealed Thursday on the NFL website, which reported an FBI investigation suspecting a South American organized crime network. The police indicated that Linval Josephthe Dallas Cowboys defender, was the victim of a burglary at his home in Minnesota last weekend.
Among the Kansas City Chiefs, four-time Super Bowl winners, quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end (offensive position) Travis Kelce, boyfriend of the pop megastar Taylor Swiftwere both burglarized last month. Each time while they were away from home.
League officials suggested players not post messages on social media that allow them to be located in real time, hide valuables and install security systems at their homes.
The phenomenon of burglaries of high-level athletes is not new. In Europe, burglaries of footballers number in the dozens and often (but not always) follow the same modus operandi: breaking into the players’ homes when they are busy playing. In France, Paris Saint-Germain players (Marquinhos, Kimpembe, Di Maria, Donnarumma, Verratti,…) were notably targeted. In Spain, the phenomenon is also present. Last March, the police dismantled a gang of criminals specializing in burglaries of luxury residences, including those of footballers.
The phenomenon is not limited to the world of football. We can for example cite the burglary carried out at the tennis player’s home Lucas Pouille while he was playing at Roland Garros.
