A double pairing between the two icons is possible, says Godsick
Although Nadal did not take part in the Laver Cup this year, Federer revealed in an interview in June that he would come out of retirement to play doubles with the Spaniard if he asked.
During this year’s Laver Cup, Godsick was asked about the possibility of Nadal captaining Team Europe in the future: “I hope so,” Godsick said in an interview with Marca. “My dream is for Roger to become captain and Rafa to be assistant and then vice versa. That way they would stay in office longer. “The rivalry between the two on the pitch was very special, but I think the friendship between the two off it The place is even more special. They are a clear example that all competitors can get along.”
Godsick, who co-founded the Laver Cup with Federer in 2017, revealed that Barcelona was a possible option to host the annual event in 2026. He also discussed the idea that Federer and Nadal could hold exhibition matches in the future at Real Madrid’s newly designed Santiago Bernabeu Stadium: “We are working on it and have several options,” said Godsick. “On the one hand, there is already a lot of tennis being played in Spain, but on the other hand, Spanish fans have their own culture and understand the game. It is a country that has had superheroes in the sport. Since Roger retired, he didn’t want to play another match as long as he wasn’t feeling well physically. What comes to mind is the attendance record they set in South Africa. If there’s a way to beat that one day, I’m sure Roger will you both enjoy working together, and I do I enjoy working with Carlos Costa. I have very good memories of it. We did the exhibition “Half Grass, Half Clay” in Mallorca… Anything is possible in the future.”
Come on, @RafaelNadal!
As you get ready to graduate from tennis, I’ve got a few things to share before I maybe get emotional.
Let’s start with the obvious: you beat me—a lot. More than I managed to beat you. You challenged me in ways no one else could. On clay, it felt like I…
