The Kansas City Royals acquired Cincinnati Reds second baseman Jonathan India on Friday.
The Royals also got their hands on outfielder Joey Wiemer. In return, the Missouri team ceded right-handed pitcher Brady Singer to the Reds.
India, 27, was named National League Rookie of the Year in 2021. This season, he posted a .248 batting average, hit 15 home runs and drove in 58 runs.
Having played in 151 games in 2024, India has drawn 80 walks, placing him fifth in major league baseball.
India will earn US$5.45 million next season and will be eligible for full free agency in 2027. He was drafted fifth overall by the Reds in 2018, 13 spots ahead of Singer.
Singer, 28, has been a part of the Royals’ starting rotation since 2020. Last season, he went 9-13 with a 3.71 ERA in 179 2/3 innings.
In 127 appearances on the mound in the majors, he compiled a 36-44 record and a 4.28 earned run average. It will also be eligible for full autonomy in 2027.
Wiemer, 25, spent the season in the minors with Louisville.
