Walker Buehler.
THE NEW DIARY. NEW YORK.- Right-hander Walker Buehler, in relief with the Dodgers, made the last pitch of 2024 at Yankee Stadium to close the World Series against the Yankees in favor of Los Angeles in Game 5.
Could Yankee Stadium be the one after its first pitch of 2025? MLB Network’s Jon Paul Morosi has been told that “there is some mutual interest” between Buehler and the Yankees, who are looking to bolster their starting pitching this winter.
During the 2024 regular season, Buehler didn’t look great following a second Tommy John surgery. But at the end of the campaign, he showed signs of improvement. And in two appearances in the World Series, he threw 6.0 shutouts: A 5.0 inning start in Game 3 and a scoreless inning to earn the save in the decisive Game 5.
The 30-year-old right-hander is a former first-round pick in the amateur draft who, in the fairly recent past, was one of the best pitchers in the Major Leagues. In 2021, Buehler finished fourth in National League Cy Young Award voting, with a 2.47 ERA and 212 strikeouts in 207.2 innings.
