On Friday, more than 100 fans traveled with Telstar to the Sportpak Toekomst, Ajax’s ‘training breeding ground’. In a month’s time, 1,200 supporters will completely fill the away section of De ArenA a few hundred meters away. The sporting achievements do not go unnoticed.
Could Telstar continue in the right direction after the memorable and convincing 4-0 win over an underperforming VVV? Ajax’s young talents often alternate between good and bad performances. It remains to be seen who will appear at the kick-off.
The game was still in balance before half time
”A nice game”, ”Nice!”, ”We played well, right?”, a number of fans summed up shortly afterwards. No, it was not Telstar fans who had reason to be satisfied and made those statements, but Ajax supporters who saw their ”youngsters” put Telstar on the rack and commented on the big 3-0 win.
Jong Ajax initially dominated before half time, but Guus Offerhaus hit the left post with a blisteringly hard shot and efforts from Danny Bakker and Tyrese Noslin twice smothered, went wide or were prey for goalkeeper Diant Ramaj. The only goal came from Don-Angelo Konadu, who surprised his direct opponent with a soft header; 1-0.
Young Ajax is no longer in danger after the break
After the break, Telstar could do little or nothing offensively and saw Ronald Koeman Jr make an incredible mistake after 64 minutes. Koeman ”choked” on Jan Faberski who suddenly appeared in front of him from nowhere, Koeman clumsily hit the ball against his leg and without the Pole noticing, the ball rolled over the goal line; 2-0. A sledgehammer blow and the match ended definitively. Only substitute Jaydon Banel found an opening in 90+2 when he softly but placed the ball on the edge of the penalty area past the slow-reacting Koeman and put the 3-0 final score on the scoreboard.
On a freezing evening it was far from enjoyable for the Telstar supporters who traveled along, who certainly hoped and counted for more.
