Brock Purdy did not throw a pass during training on Wednesday for the San Francisco 49ers. On Thursday, he left practice early and did not speak to the media. That’s a concern heading into Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers.
Purdy was limited in practice Thursday and on Friday he underwent an MRI on his right shoulder.
“Hopefully he makes progress and we can have a chance this weekend, but we’ll see,” general manager John Lynch said. KNBR on Friday“I think it’s fragile. »
Brandon Allen or Joshua Dobbs could start if Purdy can’t play as the 49ers look to improve to 5-5.
“We are happy with the current situation,” Lynch said. But you still have to be able to play. So we’re thinking about all of this. Brock is going to show up today and we’ll see where he can go training-wise, and we’ll make decisions accordingly. Brandon Allen and Josh Dobbs would both be ready, but Brandon would get the first snaps. »
The 49ers aren’t just waiting on Purdy, they could also have decisions to make on left tackle Trent Williams (ankle) and edge rusher Nick Bosa (hip/oblique). Both are injured and neither practiced this week.
Mike Evans plans to return against the Giants
Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense could get a big boost from wide receiver Mike Evans full participant in training on Thursday as he recovers from a hamstring injury.
Evans missed the Bucs’ last three games, all of which they lost. With a 4-6 record, and part of their schedule looking to be quieter over the next three weeks with games against the New York Giants, Carolina Panthers and Las Vegas Raiders, his presence on the court will help an offense that scored 145 points in the four games before he was injured.
“It hurt me to see my team struggle in very tough, close games that we could have won,” Evans said. “I wish I could have been there to help them. I can’t wait to get started this week. »
Evans, who has 335 receiving yards this season, hopes to return as soon as he can, as he seeks his 11th straight season with at least 1,000 receiving yards, tying Hall of Famer Jerry Rice’s record. Evans needs 30 receiving yards in the Buccaneers’ final seven games to reach that record.
DeVonta Smith remains out for Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles were without wide receiver DeVonta Smith for a third straight day as he suffered a hamstring injury that was bothering him.
Smith, 26, has missed just two games in his four-year NFL career. He played despite his hamstring injury this season, but still had good statistics: 41 receptions for 516 yards and four touchdowns in nine games.
“We’ll see,” head coach Nick Sirianni said when asked if Smith was available for Sunday night’s game against the Los Angeles Rams.
Despite being limited every day in practice last week, Smith ended up playing in their win over the Washington Commanders and caught four balls for 29 yards.
