Stadium full of activity
Based on an investment of around 5 million dollars, the “8 de Junio” Stadium was transformed and modernized in the current period to host international level events, with facilities adjusted to the regulations of the different sports confederations.
In this framework, based on a joint scheme that involves the Departmental Administration and the National Football Club of our country, Paysandú will host the Final Four of the South American Club League, which will have Nacional and Defensor of Uruguay as protagonists San Lorenzo and Olympic of the Argentine Republic.
The matches will be broadcast around the world through the official FIBA channel. There will be gastronomic service, surprises, raffles, games, interaction with the public and activities that the sponsoring companies will provide around the stadium.
“We put Paysandú on the map”
Fermín Farinha assured that the Final Four will be “the largest sporting event” that Paysandú will have at the end of 2024, based on “a lot of work and a lot of planning”, from the application stage to the strictly organizational aspect, with the participation of several directions of the Municipality.
He indicated that the show “will mobilize the entire city” in terms of hotels and gastronomy, in addition to the demand for services that there will be from both the sports delegations and the public that will come to enjoy the games.
He thanked Mayor Nicolás Olivera for “giving his confidence to commit to holding this type of event,” which requires a complex logistical assembly and the provision of appropriate services for visitors.
“In this way we put Paysandú on the map and make it a viable option for shows of these characteristics,” he stated.
Tickets are selling at a good rate
“It will be a first-class presentation of basketball at the South American level,” said Guillermo Arias, who recalled that this tournament is the second most important at the continental level after the Basketball Champions League Americas.
He added that through various departments of the Municipality, intense work has been done to offer a quality show, in coordination with the clubs and also with FIBA, whose demands are fully satisfied by the new stadium facilities.
He confirmed that ticket sales “are coming at a very good pace” in paysanduticket.uyat 280 pesos (blue sector, unnumbered), 390 (green sector) and 550 (white sector).
Lanasa, for its part, reported that, on Saturday the 30th, the first-hour match (San Lorenzo – Olympic) will begin at 7 p.m., while at 9:30 p.m. Defensor and Nacional will face each other.
On Sunday the 1st, starting at 6:00 p.m., the match for third and fourth place will take place, while the final will take place at 8:30 p.m.
He added that the teams “are being reinforced” for these instances, incorporating foreign players, which will guarantee that Paysandú, for four days, will receive “the best of South American basketball.”
Likewise, the matches will be refereed by eight FIBA referees, while on Saturday the 30th, at the Touring Básquetbol Club facilities and in double time, a clinic for coaches will be held led by a professional also from FIBA.
“Several excursions from other departments as well as from Argentina have already reserved a hotel. We believe it will be a very important move for Paysandú,” he highlighted.
In coordination with the organizing club (Club Nacional de Football), all security provisions were taken, which includes the presence of the Police and private guards; specific location of each fan and impossibility of entering the stadium with some items such as smoke bombs, thermos, mate, drinks and food.
