After their triumph in the mixed competition, Katharina Schmid and Selina Freitag also performed well in the first individual competition of the season. The Slovenian Nika Prevc is in a class of her own.
The German ski jumpers have made a brilliant start to the new season. Katharina Schmid and Selina Freitag flew onto the podium in second and third place at the first individual World Cup of the winter. The favored Nika Prevc from Slovenia secured victory on the large hill in Lillehammer. The overall World Cup winner from the previous season jumped the fastest distance in both rounds and triumphed with a lead of more than 22 points.
“I’m really happy,” said Schmid from Oberstdorf. “I’m happy that I can be at the forefront again.” With every jump she becomes more relaxed and self-confident. “It can continue like this,” said the 28-year-old. “I think we’re ready for the season.”
Schmid and Freitag had already impressed the day before and won the mixed team competition together with Andreas Wellinger and Pius Paschke. On Sunday there is another individual competition for the women in Lillehammer.
