Rome, 23 November 2024 – During the 76th EJU Congress held today at the Hilton Castle Hotel in Budapest, in the presence of 200 delegates from 47 nations, the presidency of the EJU was confirmed to Mr. László Tóth (HUN).
Three vice-presidents were also elected (for the first time two women) for a total of 18 members.
Well, in this prestigious event the current President of the Judo Sector Giuseppe Matera was elected member of the Executive Committee with the important role of Director of Development of our discipline.
President Matera shared the satisfaction of this result with Councilor Andrea Regis, delegated by President Falcone to take part in the Congress activities.
This position within the EJU Executive Committee will be able to give even more prestige to our nation, creating a direct link with the European Union.
The newly re-elected President Toth declared: “Even more expertise in judo: seven new members (Gévrise Emane/FRA, Juan Carlos Barcos Nagore/ESP, Branislav Crnogorac/BIH, David Kevkhishvili/GEO, Giuseppe Matera/ITA, Teodor Adrian Pop/GER , Ivan Todorov/SRB) were elected to the Executive Committee. Major European judo nations such as Germany, France, Georgia, Italy and Spain will all be represented on the Executive Committee. Together, these “big five” represent more than one million judokas.”
Also the President of the International Federation (IJF),
Marius L. Vizer, present at this event declared: ”The EJU is the main driving force of the International Judo Federation. After any change, stability is needed. Especially in these difficult times, we need calm and unity to continue to succeed.”
Proud and full of initiative, the newly elected Matera declares: “For me this does not represent a point of arrival but a starting point. This recognition rewards not only my sacrifice and dedication but also and above all the work of a team that has made Italy larger and more compact in the last four years. The recognition of a work carried out by a cohesive group, always ready for discussion; a group in which everyone has a fundamental role and makes their contribution in a democratic way. Italy therefore acquires, at a European level, a role of great prestige which makes us proud and which encourages us to work ever harder to improve ourselves, demonstrating our value even among the “Greats” of Judo”.
Congratulations to President Matera and good work for this new role.
