*Italian Absolute and Para Badminton Championships 2024*
*Emma Piccinin running for three titles*
The second day of competition determined the finalists of the doubles tournaments
(men’s, women’s and mixed) and the two Para Badminton finals (singles
men’s WH2 and mixed doubles WH). The main protagonist is definitely *Emma
Piccinin *(BC Milan), the only athlete still in the running for the treble.
In the mixed doubles, the final promises to be of the highest level: *David
Salutt* and *Martina Corsini* (SSV Bozen/BC Milano) will face *Gianmarco
Bailetti* and *Emma Piccinin* (BC Milan). Both couples fought
in their respective semifinal matches, prevailing in three sets after losing
the first partial. Salutt and Corsini defeated *Enrico Baroni* and *Chiara
Passeri* (GSA Chiari) with a score of 21-23; 21-9; 21-10, while
Bailetti and Piccinin won against *Ruben Fellin* and *Sofia Galimberti* (SSV
Bozen/ASV Uberetsch) with the result of 21-23; 21-14; 21-11.
In the women’s doubles, almost all predictions were respected. There
number one seed, *Anna Hell* and *Sofia Galimberti* (ASV
Uberetsch), they reached the final by beating *Alice in straight sets
Pellizzari* and *Lidia Rainero* (BC Lario/CUS Torino) with a score of
23-21; 9-7pm. In the final, the South Tyroleans will not meet the top seed
number two, *Chiara Passeri* and *Martina Moretti* (GSA Chiari), but *Emma
Piccinin* and *Martina Corsini* (BC Milano), who imposed themselves on the
clarensi in due set (21-10; 21-13).
In the men’s doubles, *Alessandro Gozzini* and *Luca Zhou* (GSA Chiari/ASV
Mals) dominated the tournament, reaching the final after winning in
three sets in all matches. In the semifinals, they defeated *Marco
Danti* and *Ruben
Fellin* (ASV Uberetsch/SSV Bozen) with a score of 20-21; 21-15; 9-4pm.
In the final they will face *Matteo Massetti* and *David Salutt* (MaraBadminton/SSV
Bozen), who overtook *Gianmarco Bailetti* and *Simone Piccinin* (BC
Milan) in a marathon of almost an hour, with a score of 23-25; 21-15;
22-20.
In the men’s singles, four athletes reached the semi-finals
Italians: *Fabio Caponio* (CS Aeronautica Militare), *Alessandro Gozzini* (GSA
Chiari), *Christopher Vittoriani* (MaraBadminton) and *Luca Zhou* (ASV Mals).
*Victorians*, seeking their third consecutive title, will challenge
Gozzini, while *Caponio* will face Zhou.
In the women’s singles, *Yasmine Hamza* (SSV Bozen) will look for her fourth
title. Obstructing his way will be *Gianna Stiglich* (GS Fiamme
Gold), while on the other side of the board, *Emma Piccinin* will compete with
*Lidia Rainero*(CUS Torino) for a place in the final.
In Para Badminton, they reached the final in the men’s singles WH2 two
*GSPD* athletes: *Roberto Punzo*, winner in two sets (21-16;
21-18) on *Salvatore
Vasta* (GSPD), and *Piero Rosario Suma*, who defeated *Emanuele
Beloved* (Arrows
Azzurre) with a score of 21-6; 21-5. The other final of the day
will see *Maurizio Giuseppe*and *Maria Grazia on the field in the mixed doubles
Leo* (ASAM/SEI)
against *Roberto Punzo* and *Diana Luta* (GSPD/Alba Shuttle).
