6 1 The different strokes 1.2 Net drop The net drop brings the shuttle from your own front court into the opponent’s front court AS short as possible. The most important points of attention for the net drop are: Lunge on the racket foot Point of contact at shoulder height The downward position of the blade The tactical purpose of the net drop: Play away from the opponent: bring the opponent to the net zone. Figure 2: the backhand net drop Badminton FLANDERS Bloso 7 1.2 Dab kill at the net The dab is an overhand blow that brings the shuttle steeply down from your own front court into the opponent’s court. The most important points of attention for the dab are: Lunge on racket foot Hitting downwards Racket head above the hand The tactical goal of the dab: Playing the shuttle downwards and completing the rally. In doubles we still opt for a backhand serve in the initiation, since: the thumb grip offers much more control. The shuttle is held clearly in front of the body during the backhand serve, so that the opponent has less time to estimate and anticipate the direction of the serve. The most important points of attention for the lob: Lunge on the racket foot Depth of the stroke The signalers create a situation with sufficient time. The tactical purpose of the lob: Play away from your opponent: bring your opponent deep into the backfield. 1.2 Long serve The long serve is an FH serve that brings the shuttle from behind the service line underhand high and far into the opponent’s diagonal service court. The most important points of attention for the long serve: Big swing Transverse stance Low point of contact Big swing The tactical goal of the long serve: Play away from your opponent: bring your opponent to the back line. The drive is played from midfield to the opponent’s center or backfield. The most important points of attention for the drive: Lunging sideways on the racket foot Palm grip (FH) Position of the blade in relation to the flight direction of the shuttle Flat flight The tactical goal of the drive: The aim of the drive is to hit a fast, hard and flat shuttle from shoulder height : putting the opponent under time pressure. 1.2 Clear The clear is an overhand stroke that brings the shuttle from your own backfield high and far into the opponent’s backfield.
