Two bronze medals for Berlin-Brandenburg – Berlin-Brandenburg Badminton Association

Two bronze medals for Berlin-Brandenburg – Berlin-Brandenburg Badminton Association

Last weekend (November 15th-17th, 2024) the 4th German ranking O 19 took place for the second time in the municipality of Am Mellensee (Brandenburg).

With the support of the state of Brandenburg, the municipality of Am Mellensse and other sponsors, the host team SV Klausdorf / BC Matchpoint Berlin welcomed almost 200 players from all over Germany, including 39 (!) players from the BVBB area. Around 500 spectators ensured a great event over the three days.
On the final day, the mayor of the municipality Tobias Krüger and the vice president of the LSB Berlin Mario Freund honored the winners. BVBB President Roland Zell and his deputy Tilo Hieronymus visited the tournament on Saturday, which was packed with games. Everyone agreed that it was absolutely top-class sport and that we would like to meet again in Mellensee in 2025.

Camilo Borst (PreussenPark), seeded 5/8, had to push himself to his physical limits in the quarterfinals to win against Lennart Kondor (Beuel) 18:21, 21:16, 21:14 after losing the first set. In the semifinals, Camilo lacked strength against the eventual winner Justin Seibel (Neuhausen-Nymphenburg) and so Camilo had to admit defeat 12:21, 13:21. The result is a great success, as the 24-year-old is sure to continue to develop through international tournaments and camps.

In the women’s doubles, the unseeded Sophie Reimers / Michelle Kanschik (SC Brandenburg) started full of anticipation and reached the quarter-finals without any problems. In a close, exciting game they defeated the 3/4 seeds Nicole Bartsch / Kristin Böhme (Jena) 22:20, 21:17. On Sunday it was all about making it to the final against the second seeds Nina Becker / Louisa Marburger (Cologne/Fischbach). The first set was very even and the two Berliners were a little annoyed at the end about the 19:21, 15:21 defeat, as they felt perhaps even more was possible. Two medals for the BVBB athletes are a great success and a lot of motivation for the upcoming championships (BBEM, NDEM, DM). We keep our fingers crossed for everyone active.

Annika Horbach from Bonn-Beuel was particularly successful, winning twice in women’s doubles and mixed doubles, losing only one set in the days. Brid Stepper (Beuel) only competed in the women’s singles this year and, like last year, she confidently won the women’s singles. The most surprises came in the men’s doubles, as none of the top four seeds were able to reach the semi-finals.

A special thank you goes to the entire team of helpers, the officials, the VICTOR company and the numerous small and large helpers. THANKS!
