The free kick takes its toll

Kutxabank Araski pays for the lack of success from the free throw in the defeat against Celta (71-63)

Missteps in Vigo. Kutxabank Araski does not achieve victory against a direct rival like Celta. After a bad start to the game, the Vitorian team changed its face after the break. With an almost perfect third quarter, Made Urieta’s team turned the game around. However, errors in the final ten minutes prevented a new victory, which was resisted outside of Mendizorrotza.

Araski set a high pace from the initial jump. And in that explosive game, Marta Hermida took the reins in scoring for the Vitorians. The continuous back and forth made the pavilion experience a fast first quarter in which Celta gained a minimal advantage. That break between first and second did not sit well with Kutxabank Araski. A 10-0 run put the game uphill.

And from there the disadvantage did not stop growing before the break. Three triples from Laura Aliaga gave life to Kutxabank Araski to reach the second half with options (43-30). The time in the locker room clicked for the Gasteiz team. In a great third quarter, Made Urieta’s team were more accurate in front of the basket, they corrected the mistakes of the first half and came back in the game.

However, Celta reacted to prevent Kutxabank Araski’s minimal advantage from lasting more minutes. The game was decided in the last quarter. The failures in the free throws and the success of the rivals in the paint penalized Kutxabank Araski, who was unable to achieve the victory in Vigo.
