Ruben Amorim takes charge of his first game as Manchester United manager on Sunday afternoon when the Crimson Devils visit Ipswich City in the Premier League.
The Portuguese manager will get his first taste of English football at Portman Highway, aiming to build on the good work done by interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy. Making a quick start in the Premier League will be essential after Man Utd’s dismal start to the 2024/25 campaign, but Amorim’s arrival marks the start of a long-term project.
The former Sporting CP coach already has many injury problems to deal with and will aim to change the team’s identity with a depleted squad at his disposal. A trip to Ipswich is an appetizing first game in many ways, but the Tractor Boys will be desperate to ruin Amorim’s big day.
Ipswich finally picked up their first win of the Premier League season before the November international break, stunning Tottenham Hotspur with a 2-1 win in north London. Kieran McKenna, who was linked with the Man Utd job last summer, will be keen to build on a strong performance and results this weekend.
here it is 90 minutes Guide to Amorim’s United debut.

Ipswich have several players in doubt for the visit of Man Utd, but the positive news is that Kalvin Phillips is returning from his one-match suspension following a red card against Leicester Metropolis.
Elsewhere, Jacob Greaves is nearing his return after almost two months out of action and Jack Taylor, Wes Burns and Nathan Broadhead could all feature on Sunday.
Omari Hutchinson did not feature for the England Under-21 team during the international period due to injury, but could return against United. Chiedozie Ogbene will be out for the remainder of the campaign.
Ipswich vs Man Utd Predicted Lineup (3-4-3): Múrico; Tuanzebe, O’Shea, Burgess; Johnson, Morsy, Cajuste, Davis; Hutchinson, Delap, Szmodics.
It is difficult to predict Amorim’s first starting lineup, but he is expected to use the 3-4-3 system that brought him so much success at Sporting. In his pre-match press conference, he suggested that he would field a lineup comparable to Van Nistelrooy’s recently chosen one, but that “it will be different” in the match.
In terms of injuries, Amorim has a lot to deal with in his first week on the job. Long-term absentees Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Leny Yoro are unlikely to appear, although they are making progress towards their returns.
Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo were unavailable during the international break and could well miss out again. However, Lisandro Martínez, Víctor Lindelof and Casemiro are expected to be healthy.
Man Utd vs Ipswich predicted lineup (3-4-3): Onana; De Ligt, Evans, Martinez; Dalot, Casemiro, Ugarte, Mazraoui; Fernández, Hojlund, Rashford.
It is the start of an exciting new period for Manchester United fans and Amorim will be desperate to make a positive first impression at the weekend. It will take time for things to solidify and improve, but a win at Portman Highway would be a dream start for the impressive Portuguese.
There is expected to be a radical transformation in formation and philosophy under Amorim, but it may be best for him to help his new players make such a drastic change. Ipswich have shown their ability to make life difficult for the division’s best, as evidenced by the win over Spurs last time out.
However, convincing or not, we’re backing Amorim to begin their reign with a win against the newly promoted Tractor Boys.
