This is probably not how football team Sparta Prague imagined the festive day. It was supposed to be a triumphant anniversary of 131 years since the club was founded. After the 1:1 draw with Teplice, some fans booed the Letné spartanské players.

It was supposed to be a big celebration for the Spartan football club. Instead, the players in special black retro jerseys heard a whistle.
Hear what Sparta’s coach and players had to say after the 1:1 draw with Teplice
“They have every right to express themselves however they want. It was hard to listen to, but I’m definitely not saying it was unfair,” responded Sparta’s Danish coach Lars Friis.
Letná had not heard such a cry for a long time. The scorer of Prague’s only goal – Slovakian Lukáš Haraslín – watched the disgruntled fans from the pitch.
“It’s not pleasant, but I and some players experienced it personally a few years ago, so we know we have to get over it. Maybe the football won’t be pretty either, but we’ll get three points. The most important thing is to get out of it as quickly as possible,” believes Haraslín.

What is Sparta missing?
Sparta’s crisis has been going on for about two months and continues. The loss to first place is eleven points, rivals from Slavia also have a game to spare.
Sparta is also troubled by injuries to key figures, last season’s player Veljko Birmančević from Serbia is still missing. According to Friis, however, this is not the biggest problem.
“I saw a lack of courage. We’re not bad footballers, we’re not a bad football club, but it’s all about attitude and guts. It affects everything, how you defend and how you attack,” explains the coach of the big Leten club.
Courage will come in handy for Sparta on Tuesday, when they welcome Atlético Madrid in the Champions League.
