MADRID, 24 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish badminton player Carolina Marín assured this Sunday in Seville that although her recovery is on the right track, she will not rush her return to the courts as in the past, stating that she will “pick up a racket again at the right time.”
The Huelva native, an ambassador for Banco Santander, has suffered three cruciate ligament and meniscus tears, two in the right knee and another in the left, the last at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. “The recovery is going very well, I am meeting the deadlines and at the moment everything is on track, but I don’t set any deadline to return. Today the most important thing for me was the Olympic Games and that has already happened. Therefore, I am in no hurry. I ran too much with the two previous injuries, so right now I’m trying to take advantage and enjoy these types of events,” he said.
The three-time world champion and 2024 Princess of Asturias Sports Award winner received the tribute of the Seville Women’s Race, vindicating the role of women in the world of sports and joining the fight against cancer. “It has been a joy to know that more than 7,000 women have signed up to run or walk and it is very important that they are here, supporting the fight against a type of disease that many women have to fight against, and because sport is health. I am very grateful to Banco Santander for being here for another year and being able to support these types of initiatives,” she indicated.
Marín, who regretted not being able to run the test, expressed his feelings. “I’m still going to need some time because the blow was hard and I don’t want to run, so I’ll pick up a racket again at the right time,” warned the Andalusian, who was seriously injured during the semifinals of the Games against the Chinese He Bing Jiao, only 11 points away from securing a new Olympic medal.
This Sunday, Seville closed the nine-race circuit (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, València, Madrid, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Gijón, A Coruña, Zaragoza, Barcelona and Seville) of the race, meeting the goal of reaching the figure of 100,000 women wearing the pink t-shirt with the race number.
Carmen Gutierrez from Seville achieved her fourth consecutive victory with a time of 22:56 after a 6.5 kilometer route around the María Luisa Park, starting and finishing on Rábida Street. Celia Romero (23:23), María Pujol (24:27), Isabel Piñeiro (24:46) and Nerea Sánchez (25:49) completed the top five places. The event already has half a million participants in these two decades of the largest women’s sporting event in Europe since its creation in 2004 and which has the support of Banco Santander.
