The program included the charged derby Waterloo-SVIJ. Charged by various causes. For example, there was the turbulent transfer of a number of players on the last day of SVIJ back to Waterloo, which showed that a word is no longer a word, but things well done don’t turn around. There was also the clear statement from a number of players that whatever would happen and even if Waterloo lost everything, SVIJ had to win, this would give the season a huge boost.
SVIJ went to Waterloolaan a bit tensely. The technical staff put a lot of pressure on the group, especially since they rarely win at Waterloo. The last time was about 10 years ago when SVIJ played on Sunday and won 0-1 thanks to a goal from Ronald Vader.
Both trainers were missing a number of players and the circumstances did not really cooperate. A strong wind and a steadily falling drizzly rain did not make it attractive for the large group of spectators.
Under the leadership of the excellent referee Angelo Kiel, SVIJ started the match energetically and after three minutes it should have been a hit when Sem van der Heul appeared alone in front of Waterloo goalkeeper Ali Al Kueb after an excellent pass from Dannick Stoker, who managed to make an excellent save. to take. Barely five minutes later it was Van der Heul again, now assisted by Hassan Al Ikaili, who failed to pass the Waterloo goalkeeper.
At the initiative of Florian Toen, Waterloo stepped up their game and came into the match a little better. A match that mainly took place in midfield, where fierce duels were fought, which were sometimes on the edge. SVIJ certainly continued to have the upper hand in the last fifteen minutes before half-time and the defense with Denzel Meijer and Mats Wanders did not get into any problems. However, SVIJ no longer created any real opportunities, so the halftime score was 0-0.
After the break, basically the same game pattern. SVIJ tried to play football and Waterloo did well defensively. In the 62e minute it was Abass Al Ikaili who found Dion Adema in the penalty area, his effort was saved by SVIJ keeper Remy Heruer, but Raoul van den Berghe managed to score 1-0 for the home team from the rebound. So SVIJ had to work hard, but did not create any opportunities. A foul by Dion Adema on Rayan Meerval 25 meters from the Waterloo goal was punished by referee Kiel with a yellow card. This resulted in a small shout of joy from Terrasvogels coach Bryan Wijker, because Adema has been suspended for the Waterloo match against Terrasvogels next week.
Jurjen Dikker stood behind the ball together with Robin Ulehake and shot the ball perfectly after a distraction from Ulehake. This brought the parties on an equal footing. SVIJ wanted more and after a splitting pass from Jens Dekker, Alex Barzilay seemed to score the winning goal, but the striker did not score well and his effort disappeared wide of the goal. Meanwhile, in injury time, SVIJ received another corner. Cas Peetoom’s inswinging ball was barely converted into a corner by Al Kueb. The referee indicated that he had 10 seconds left to play. Peetoom again took the corner, which was excellently headed in by Jurjen Dikker to give SVIJ the 1-2 victory.
A disappointing derby that was sporty, with only 4 yellow cards, distributed fairly between both teams. After the match, of course, there was joy at SVIJ, but Waterloo also dealt with the painful defeat well, which meant that it was still very pleasant at the sports park for a long time, partly due to the singer who is now customary at almost all matches.
