In his first start in three years, the quarterback Brandon Allen was roughed up against the Green Bay Packers, who crushed the 49ers 38-10 at Lambeau Field.
This is the largest gap between these two teams in 74 meetings.
Jordan Love threw two touchdown passes to Tucker Kraft et Malik Heath, who got his first of the season and second of his career. This is the first time this season that Love was not the victim of an interception in a game, leading the league in this category with 11.
Josh Jacobs, for his part, scored three touchdowns on the ground, which equals a personal high.
Last season, San Francisco eliminated Green Bay in the divisional playoffs en route to an appearance in Super Bowl LVIII.
Allen didn’t get much support from his ground game unlike Love, as he and his offense committed too many turnovers, including an interception and a fumble following a quarterback sack that led to more late for a touchdown. He completed 17 of his 29 passes for 199 yards.
The Niners were also without their best defensive player in Nick Bosa, who was out with a hip and oblique injury, in addition to Trent Williams (ankle).
The Packers wasted no time getting on the board, from the first offensive sequence. One of the worst teams in the league in the penalty area, they lost ground to a holding penalty, but Jordan Love has finally joined Tucker Kraft for the touchdown.
Josh Jacobs gained 39 yards on this sequence and was again employed repeatedly thereafter, but after two incomplete passes, the Packers settled for a field goal to make it 10-0.
San Francisco didn’t help itself with several missed tackles in the first half and two penalties for having too many players on the field. At least they didn’t return to the locker room empty-handed, as Allen threw his first touchdown pass to George Kittle before the end of the second quarter.
Back on the field ahead 17-7, Xavier McKinney threw his seventh interception off Allen when the ball bounced out of Deebo Samuel’s hands in the third quarter.
The Niners’ defense hasn’t been the most reliable since the start of the game, but limited the damage for a long period before seeing Jacobs score his second touchdown of the game in the third quarter. After allowing 17 points in the Packers’ first three drives, she limited the opponent to 47 yards in the next four, forcing three punts. On the other hand, the Niners also missed two interception chances that could have changed the course of the game.
In the fourth quarter, Allen also fumbled the ball when he was hit from behind by Lukas Van Ness, a ball which ended up in the hands of Kenny Clark to resume the action at the offensive line of 16. Three games later, Josh Jacobs was rewarded with another one-yard touchdown to make it 31-10.
Malik Heath completed the scoring on a short 3-yard pass into the end zone.
