No change at the head of the European Judo Union (EJU). The Hungarian László Toth (photo above), its president since June 2022, was reappointed for a new four-year term. Without a rival for the post, he was re-elected unanimously and by acclamation during the 76th ordinary congress of the body, organized last weekend in Budapest. The EJU executive committee has been partially renewed, with for the first time the presence of two vice-presidents, the Swedish Kristina Pekkola and the Portuguese Catarina Rodrigues. Seven new elected officials join the executive committee, including French judoka Gévrise Emane, three-time world champion (2007, 2011 and 2015), in charge of education. The continental body specifies that all the major judo nations – Germany, France, Georgia, Italy and Spain – are now represented within the new executive committee. Together, they represent more than a million judokas. At the 2024 Paris Games, Europe totaled 31 Olympic medals, including 8 gold, obtained by 16 nations.
