Basket School Messina defeated 88-76 by Pallacanestro Angri

After a good start, the Messina team were overtaken by their opponents and were unable to recover the deficit

Second consecutive defeat for Basket School Messina, beaten 88-76 by Pallacanestro Angri in the match valid for the last day of the first round. Complicated match for the Peloritans who, after a good start, were no longer able to get their head back ahead in the score, even if in the last quarter a couple of good opportunities were trashed to get back to just one possession behind the Campania team.

Angri was carried away by the evening of grace spent shooting by Martinez and Malkic and by the presence under the basket of Milojevic. In the Basket School Messina the best scorer is Di Dio (18 points), double figures also for Miaffo and Tartaglia.

Pippo Sidoti confirms the now usual quintet with Di Dio, Busco, Tartaglia, Diakhate and Yeyap. First basket of the match scored by Diakhate from long range and to which Martinez replies. 2/2 from the line by Yeyap who also commits his first personal foul.

Start at a high pace and nice basket from Busco from the corner, impacted at 7 by Martinez’s free throws (all the Campania points so far are his). Di Dio joins the game with a backdoor cut on an assist from Tartaglia, Milojevic equalizes at 9 and Diakhate finds a nice basket from underneath (9-11 with 5’44” from the siren).

Malkic scores Campania’s first lead with a triple to make it 12-11 and Angri extends the lead with Martinez’s dunk who also scores the next bomb: partial 8-0 in 32″ for Campania and 17-11.

Sidoti timeout, but Angri also revs up the engine in defense and spreads: the Basket School scores only from the line with Yeyap and Di Dio and the hosts complete an 18-3 break for 28-14 with triples from Valle and Martinez and Milojevic’s baskets.

Fourth closed by Mollica’s dunk, on the parquet for Tartaglia burdened with two fouls, for 28-16.

Di Dio with free throws and Busco from three close to 28-21 at the start of the second set. Bonanni unlocks Angri from the line at 8’23”, Martinez finds the fourth triple of his evening for 33-21 and the usual Milojevic certifies the +14.

Difficult evening for the Basket School Messina: Busco isolates himself and scores from the line and Miaffo scores two quick points on the counterattack to make it 35-25 with 6’30” left. Inside are Caruso and Incremona who makes his debut in the Giallorossi shirt.

Miaffo scores a triple from very long range and Peloritani are back at -9 at 37-28. Milojevic is uncontainable (12 for him) and scores again from below, then Miaffo places the second triple, also with the help of the iron and the scoreboard (41-31), to which the usual Martinez replies.

Tartaglia and Diakhate return to the parquet, Incremona scores the triple to make it 46-34 and then Miaffo throws himself in for the basket to make it 46-36 (ten for him in the quarter). Partial closed by Martinez’s free throw for 47-36, with the Argentine scoring 22 points in the first half.

Martinez was inexorable with the sixth bomb at the start of the third quarter and the assist for Milojevic to make it 52-36. Triple by Tartaglia and mid-range basket by Diakhate. The teams challenge each other from long range: Malkic scores two for the Campania team, Di Dio one for the Messina team, but Martinez hits another -16 in the open field for the 60-44.

Tartaglia and Yeyap interrupt the break, but the Basket School is unable to give continuity to its partials and Valle’s 3/3 from the line is worth 65-48. In the most complicated moment the Giallorossi find themselves: two points from Tartaglia and six from Leo Di Dio for -9 (65-56).

Yet another triple from Martinez to interrupt the 0-8 break, with Di Dio closing the quarter with the basket making it 68-58. Fourth foul by Yeyap and Miaffo at the start of the last set. Miaffo, however, finds the bomb for -7 (68-61 at 8’20”) and Tartaglia penetrates the basket for 68-63.

Then he places a nice block on Malkic, but the Basket School does not materialize the subsequent and fundamental offensive possession. Minibreak of 7-2 by Angri who returns to +10 with Malkic’s bomb and then also to a seemingly reassuring +14 with Milojevic.

4’30” from the siren Tartaglia scores, then three sensational consecutive triples from very long range by Caruso arrive for the 81-76. Angri trembles, Valle makes 0/2 from the line, but Basket School Messina is not careful, they concede two consecutive rebounds in attack and the Campania region returns to +9 with Milojevic’s basket.

In fact, the credits can roll, definitively sanctioned by the fifth foul and by Tartaglia’s coach, with the Campania team closing the score from the line at 88-76.
