“A Stanley Cup in Montreal”: Pascal Vincent speaks out

Earlier this week, the head coach of the Laval Rocket, Pascal Vincent, was on the Femme d’Hockey podcast for an interview with Isabelle Ethier.

It’s a good interview and we learn a lot about Vincent and his career, but also about his philosophy as a coach.

One of his answers is particularly interesting: Asked whether he would prefer to win the Olympic gold medal or the Stanley Cup, he hesitates a little before answering “the Stanley Cup” and then he adds “in Montreal”. You can listen to the excerpt here:

Well, we shouldn’t be afraid of this simple statement, but it’s good to know that Vincent would eventually like to win with Montreal.

We can logically think that if he wants to win with the team, it is because he hopes eventually coaches in Montreal.

Here, I don’t want to start with rumors that Pascal Vincent wants to take Martin St-Louis’ job, I’m only saying that we can deduce that Vincent would see himself in the Canadiens organization.

However, he could also possibly occupy a position as assistant coach with the team and support St-Louis in its work.

However, in the event of the dismissal of our current head coach, we can wonder if Vincent could be the solution for the CH.

So far, he is doing a remarkable job with the Laval Rocket who are having an excellent start to the season (13-3-1) while the Canadian is in line to be in the abacus mix once again this year.

On the other hand, still in this same hypothetical scenario of the dismissal of St-Louis, we can wonder if the organization wanted to deprive the Rocket of its coach and risk breaking the chemistry of a well-functioning team.

At the moment, our hopes in Laval benefit from a winning environment to develop, which is not the case in Montreal and this is partly thanks to Pascal Vincent.

Additionally, his only season coaching in the NHL with the Columbus Blue Jackets last year was rather ordinary with a 27-43-12 record.

In short, if the Canadian made the decision to replace Martin St-Louis, Vincent would be a logical candidate in the short list of available Quebec coaches. Especially since Jim Montgomery quickly found a job earlier in the day, shortening the list a little further.
