Unai Laso (27 years old) already has the two individual titles in professional baseball. El Cuatro y Medio included him yesterday in his record at the Bizkaia fronton after a duel against Peio Etxeberria (26 years old). The Bizkarreta-Gerendiain striker had a match from less to more and his caste and faith did the rest. He took out his nails to hold on to the duel when it was most complicated, he had enough patience to take advantage of his chances and mature his opponent, and at the key moment of the contest he counted on luck.
After eight years he returns to Baiko a winding that had been the preserve of Aspe. However, with Altuna III, the true dominator of the specialty, out of the equation the summit clash was a mystery almost until the end. It seemed tough due to the characteristics of the two contenders, and the 354 balls that crossed each other testify to this. Both were faithful to their style and emptied themselves on the court. The emotion kept the clash alive because they made more mistakes than usual. And in a final every detail counts. However, they shared them almost equally. The winner lost more unforced balls in the first half, while Zenotz’s did so in the second.
And a couple of those ‘gifts’ marked the future of the contest. The one in blue started the game very strong and with a 0-5 run in which he moved the ball perfectly. Based on speed, the winner was very uncomfortable. He moved him away from the front and made him run, making it difficult for Laso to find his place. The two breaks he requested before the halfway point of the contest were a worrying symptom. His bottleman did his job and made him believe.
He gained confidence as his rival allowed him to hold on to the game through his concessions. It was played like a dog. So many long ones on a court that allows play. The confrontation gained in intensity as Laso approached the light.
He looked for Peio Etxeberria’s right when he found himself in trouble and to prevent him from getting any rhythm into the game. The red man took a risk with the hook and things began to work out for him. However, I can’t maintain consistency and some balls went away which made it possible for Zenotz’s team to stay ahead on the scoreboard, even if it was with very short advantages.
Four up
He was four ahead (8-12) at the first mandatory break, and managed to maintain it until 10-14, but it was then, with fatigue beginning to take its toll, when the man from Bizkarreta-Gerendiain scored an important three goals later to be more aggressive and adjusted everything.
At this point in the clash the forces were fair and the winner moved better in this situation. His right was more active and he had a cool head aware that there was still a lot to fight. A phase with more errors than successes on both sides led to ties at 14, 15 and 16 in the confrontation. Peio Etxeberria righted the course with a two-sided left foot and both serves at 106 kilometers per hour. He was still in the fight. Concentrated. But in the next two actions, haste played tricks on him. With his volley, one of his best weapons, he wasted a couple of chances to open a definitive gap because they escaped him in an incomprehensible way after having his rival running after the ball. In this way, Laso took the lead (18-17).
After the return from the second mandatory break, the one from Baiko took the step forward he needed and maintained the inertia. He had greater clarity of ideas and struck the blow at the right time. Two goals in a row filled her lungs with air and gave her the confidence she needed. He had the game in his hand and knew how to grab it. With the patience that he lacked in Labrit in his previous match in the quarterfinals against the same rival. Laso maintained his temper and performed better in the toughness to certify his victory.
